New Wet Shaver from SE Idaho

Hey all I just thought I'd introduce myself to the forum and after lurking on here and a few other forums I decided to focus my attention on this one since jumping around them all wouldn't be as beneficial as just getting myself involved more deeply in one community and you guys seem much more friendly and not the condescending, grumpy curmudgeons that I've seen elsewhere haha.

So I've only been wet shaving for two weeks now but I've just jumped in head first and bought everything that caught my attention. I'll list below what I have bought so far but I have to say I'm loving the change from using carts and canned shaving cream in the shower. Much more relaxing and enjoyable experience that I will be using the for the rest of my life (I'm 32 years old). I'll be focusing mostly on perfecting the safety razor shave but I'm still using my straight razor occasionally just to start to build up that skills as well. I'm loving the community and atmosphere here so far and can't wait to get involved and learn and then use that knowledge and experience to help others.

--Merkur 30c (using Astra Platinum blades)

--Grim Blades/Straight American 7/8" round tip

--Omega 10029 and 10048 boar brushes (just arrived today, was using a cheap synthetic from straightrazors.com)

--Grim Blades pre-shave oil/soap/aftershave (all in the smolder scent which I've fallen in love with)

--Gentleman Jon Alum Block (ordered today off Amazon after reading a thread on here about it since I only have a styptic pen so far)

That's the basics, also got one of those flat candle warmers to heat my lather bowls which is pleasant.

Any major gaps in my collection . .and restoration query

I've been back in safety razor mode for about six weeks now .. and I'll never leave. I'm loving it. My face feels smoother and I think the shaving soap (currently DR Harris Arlington) really pampers the skin.

This is my collection .. I'm wondering if this is a good selection of mild to aggressive or is there a noticeable gap to plug .. if so, suggestions? So far the collection has cost me $80 for the lot.

Gillette Rocket mid 1950s British -- I think aluminium handle

Gillette Super Speed Red Tip circa 1953 British .. I think steel

Gillette Tech mid 50s British.. super-lightweight with aluminium ball handle

Gillette Tech mid 50s head, 60s aluminium blunt handle

Gillette Super Speed Black Tip – US 1952

They're all in excellent order.

The Gillette Red Tip has lost most of its paint except for a thin streak inside each groove in the flare.

Is the consensus here to leave it alone, or repaint. If repaint, should I find a matt plastic or enamel, or even nail polish?

curious? in one month? enough time?

Hello everyone. First post here and have never shaved with a DE razor before but I want to. Seems like from what I've been reading that these are better and I have sensitive skin and would help out with that too. Use to shave with cartridge razors( about 3 years ago) and would hate the way my skin felt after the shaves! Very uncomfortable. So decided to not shave anymore. Well now I'm joining the air force and I'm gonna have to start shaving again. so my question is that, I will be leaving in just under a month for basic training, will that be enough time to learn how to shave decently and sort of fast? Not crazy fast but you know military and especially boot camp when they are trying to break you in. Or should I just wait to learn how to shave after basic training?

Also kind of interested in acquiring a fat boy or slim. If anyone has one for sale in good condition. Let me know please. Thanks.

How can you tell if a razor has been replated?

Are there any tell-tale signs, anything else that gives it away?

Thanks.

What Shaving Soap is in your rotation?

Curious what everyone awesome shaver is using in their rotation... for me:

1) L'Occitane Cade

2) Cella Tub (Least fav. of the bunch tho, but amazing lather)

3) Tabac Shaving Soap

4) Le Pere Lucien Traditional Scent

5) Proraso Green Tub

6) Mitchell's Wool Fat

7) Martin de Candre Scented

I think I got a pretty good rotation... haven't really get into artisan soap, relatively hard to get at a reasonable price in Singapore with shipping.
