Custom Made Jeans?

After what so far has been a good experience with Natty Shirts, I've started wondering what other custom clothing makers are online at reasonable prices. I'm a big guy and often find myself wishing that there was more of a selection in Big and Tall clothing. Where a regularly sized pair of jeans might be available in 5 or 6 fabric choices, I often find 2 or 3 if I'm lucky.

I know custom clothing can get expensive, and rightfully so, but I don't have the money or desire to spend $100 or more on a pair of jeans. Does anyone know of a company that makes custom fit jeans at a decent price? I looked at Make Your Own Jeans, which looked like exactly what I was searching for on the surface, but after reading reviews, I don't think I'll take a chance with them.

Any suggestions?

SWMBO has spoken

I have been going through Al's shave balm samples, and LA shaving soap samples. SWMBO nixed all the LASS as "gross". I did think they were all that bad. She only likes the Bodega from AL's. I informed her that it was important for me to put something on my face after I shave, and since she nixed the Nivea sensitive skin she had to put in a vote.

She says she likes the high end citrus ginger soap scents. She did not have a brand name. I can't find anything like this. Anyone have a suggestion?

Hey look a squirrel

Critter with a do.gif

I don't know if this squirrel had a close encounter with a electrical transmission wire or with a strange hairdresser. Google automatically backs up my picture files and "enhances" some of them. This was a series of 5 or 6 pictures that Google put together. By the way . . . these were hand held and and I pressed the shutter for each frame.

Gillette DEs. Tuckaway, Milady, Techs, Flare Tip, Aristocrat

Good Evening, all!!

Up on the block today is a handful of razors I have acquired in the quest for the perfect shave. Some were great, some were standard, but all performed admirably. The reason for selling, you ask? The quest goes on, and like the knights of the Crusades, I too must have funding to continue mine. Consider this B&B recycling, a cash PIF, if you will. You buy something from me, I buy something from someone else. Ain't life grand? I'm really look to sell outright, but I would consider News...

End game: I'm looking for razors from 1910 or 1911 as 100 year birth razors for my sons (born in 2010 and 2011). I'd be willing to trade...Obviously.

All prices include shipping and tracking, CONUS. Paypal:)

1: 1922 Silver New-Improved Tuckaway. Light wear, looks good with majority of the plating in fine shape. $40

2: 1957 C3 Flare Tip Super Speed TTO: Doors work well, everything is as it should be. $20

3:1948-1950 Aristocrat: Slight plating loss on the knurling and doors. $40

4: Fat Handled Canadian Tech with Oval Holes. $18

5: 1964 J2 English Tech. $18

6: 1968 N2 English Tech. $18

7: 1921 Milady Decollette-Old Type head. Fantastic shape, as is the case. I liked it, but bought it for the wife. She likes $0.50 carts. I lose. $55

8: 1927 Milady-New Improved head type. This looks very similar to the gold tuckaway as the New-Improved type Milady had the tuckaway handle. This is in pretty good shape as well. $50

New Standard Steep Angle Amazement!

I've been away from DEs for a while now, apart from the R41, but have wanted to try a New Improved/New Standard cos I heard they were even better than the NEW.

Well I got a New Standard with a heavy custom handle on loan from PJGH and it has thoroughly impressed me.

With a 7 O'Clock Black in it and that heavy handle it far outshone the British NEW I previously used.

And guess what, just like the R41 (and FaTip) steep angle shaving works brilliantly with the New Standard.

Any comments gents?

Another new Rudy Vey brush. This one is Epic.

Grade A Silvertip 24mm knot 50mm loft Disco Beehive the handle is huge love it. Here are some pics

Tried a Feather blade today.

...and lived to tell about it! :biggrin1:

I just recently more than doubled my shave den today with a purchase from the B&B Shave Mall. (Thanks realdog4!) I picked up a Merkur 38C, a Cadet open comb, and the seller included a tub from The New York Shaving Co. and a pack of Feathers.

My go to setup so far has been an EJ de89 with Astra SP blades (tried Derby and Merkur blades and hated them) and Williams soap. I started DE shaving in March or so because of the "cost savings" and because I wanted to shave the way my grandparents did. My brother jumped first, and I got started right after. So today as soon as the mail passed, and yes I was waiting, I loaded up the Merkur with the Feather blade, made a great lather with my cheap badger brush and the New York cream, and went to work.

What a great shave! No irritation, no nicks, and super smooth. I had read horror stories online about how sharp these things were, but they were great! Looking forward to trying an Astra in the Merkur and hoping they are just as great in the Merkur as the Feathers are, since I have about 95 left out of a 100 pack.

Sorry this came out so long, and thank you guys for the wealth of information on this site. Even though you are costing me a fortune! :001_smile

Rfb new

Ordered this on the 28th from England and it's already in the US, should have it in a couple of days. How does it compare to the US New LC. Can't wait to try it.

Thanks for your comments.

Best way to revive a vintage soap puck

Hi there,

I've collected a few vintage soap pucks, and am looking for guidance as to how I might get them going. They appear pretty musty on top, but I'm curious if I should test-lather and see if I can get down to the goodness below!

Any strategies or suggestions would be welcome! This is my first time attempting such a task, so I want to learn well!

Thanks in advance!

-Alex

Sensitive Skin Sufferers Look Here

I've really been struggling with my shaves lately. I've been questioning if DE shaving was for me. I've been using either a EJ DE89L or a Weber razor most of the time. I have been using a DE for roughly 6 months, shaving usually every other day. I'd always get that 'just shaved' feel and I wasn't truly feeling like I was getting great shaves, but that has recently changed...

Now I'm getting a lot better shaves than I was a few weeks ago. What has changed? A very mild razor. Which razor? A Gillette Tech. A lot of people talk about how mild the EJ DE89L, but let me tell you, the Gillette Tech is even milder, and it has made a huge difference in my shaves. Now I would say I have very sensitive skin, the kind of sensitive skin where I'm not able to go against the grain or even across the grain without getting irritation. Now with the EJ DE89L and the Weber razor I would always be getting some kind of pulling, and I've tried a lot of different blades. With my Gillette Tech, for some reason I don't get as much pulling which is fantastic. I usually only do 2 passes with the grain and touchups, and that's enough for me. My goal isn't to get BBS, it is mainly to get irritation free, comfortable shaves. The only downfall of a very mild razor is that I've had to do a little more touching up than I usually would have with say my EJ DE89L, but that isn't a big deal.

If you're a guy with sensitive skin and you've been struggling like I did, give some vintage Gillette razors a try. Even something like a flare-tip or superspeed shave similar to Techs in my understanding. I've bought a good amount of soaps and creams to help with my sensitive skin, but in the end, if you are using an aggressive razor, a soap or a cream isn't going to change it that much IMO. It feels like I'm starting over in a sense because now I get to try all of my blades all over again, as well as all my soaps and creams.

I've definitely learned a lot from browsing these forums, so I'd like to say thank you to all those who have helped me out. There is definitely a lot more for me to learn and experiment with (the fun is just beginning), but I feel this is a small victory for me.

My Postman has been Kind.

I was excited to see the postman had delivered the creams and B&B Grey Glitter Brush I ordered. I ordered Cella from the reviews I read on here. I must say this stuff smells amazing, maraschino cherry meets almond extract. A Very sweet smell. Can't wait to lather this one up. Next one up is TOBS Eton College. It has a nice Modern Cologne smell, with a hint of Citrus. Can't place this one yet. Either way it will be one I use on Date nights. I also got a Tub Of TOBS Rose Cream. This one came all melted and runny thanks to this 110 degree weather in Vegas. The smell is very much like Fresh Roses. It's very floral and strong. Smells nice, I'll see how This scent lingers after shaving. I might be walking around smelling like a flower shop otherwise. I'm gonna have some nice shaves in the coming weeks. :biggrin1:

Blades Wwt.

I have some Astra SP's and some Polsilver SI's that I'd be willing to give up to a brother in trade for some Gillette Silver Blues because I hear good things about them and I want to try them. I have no idea as to the difference in value so I will leave that up to offers. I'd be willing to give up 50 blades in any combination (example 25 Astras and 25 Polsivers) for a reasonable amount of GSB's.

Help a brother out...I could easily spend and buy a bunch but I don't want to do that

Considering an OC Ikon Deluxe - thin head?

Hello All -

Hoping to rely on the collective wisdom here....

I find that I need a thin profile razor for that "under the nose" area, and many razors are just a bit too bulky for me, requiring touch ups, etc...for a frame of reference, the Gillette Slim is a bit too large for me, but my vintage Tech is much better in this regard...

That being said, is the profile of the Ikon OC Deluxe thin as a general rule? I have an opportunity to acquire one and would like some confidence before pulling the trigger...

Thanks!

John

New acquisition in need of repair.

So last week I was thrilled to find a SA Black Beauty at a local flea market. $5 out the door! It was dirty and the TTO didn't function properly, so I went through the basic cleanup and gave it a mineral oil soak. The TTO function was stiff, and one silo doors wouldn't open all the way. I assumed I hadn't cleaned it well, but upon closer inspection, I noticed the damage to the side "hinge" of the head that I didn't see in my initial excitement of the purchase. It is preventing the silo door from opening (metal on metal keeping it from opening).

I assume it was dropped or crushed somehow. I think I could "delicately" bend the pieces back together to try and realign the side piece (what is the proper name for this part?).

The adjustment works perfectly, but there is a significant blade gap between sides, which I assume is associated with the damage. If it isn't fixed when I do initial repairs, I'll try other fixes.

I thought I'd ask for the wisdom of the forum before I went about trying to fix this myself. So what do you all think is the best way to fix this? I have an old black handle SS i can use for parts if I need to replace the side door, but I know nothing about disassemble. I'm also willing to send it to be repaired, but I need references! Thanks everyone!

Question for hair gel users

Pretty simple... what's the best gel you've found? I'm looking for something that will hold my hair in place (I have thick hair, so a stronger hold is probably preferable) but that I can run my hand/fingers through with as little crunch as possible. Thanks!

Le Male by Jean Paul Gaultier

Have any of you enjoyed this scent? From what I hear it's very popular, and a good addition to the den.

I'm not picking it up, my girlfriend is. She's insisting I wear this around.

Captain's Choice Lime - Headshave!

It even works great on the bald head!

"You put the lime ON the coconut and shake it all up!"

200 derbs!

whilst shopping around on amazon last week I found a 200 count package of derby blades for 15 dollars with Amazon Prime! Can't go wrong at that price...unless, of course, you don't like derbys ;)

HTGAM just tweeted this. Anyone care to hazard a guess as to what the scent might be?

Difference between shaving soap and shaving cream?

So I was using the green (Eucalyptus & Menthol) and white (Sensitive skin) proraso jar (Which I have recently learned are soaps), However I also bought the green and white proraso tube (New Formulation), now I am reading about a super lather combining the two. I was just trying them interchangably to see which would I liked best, recently purchased the tube and white jar and tried using them alone.

If you ask me, the only thing I've noticed is the tube has not created as great as a lather as the jars so far.

Schick Hydro 3/5 vs DE?

I am very new to wet shaving, and I was just wondering if you guys still stay with cartridges at all when pressed for time?

I got a Schick Hydro 5, and it was almost just as close as the DE gave. I think Schick might be the only cartridge I like Lol

Would it be a good idea to try "hybrid shaving" instead when pressed for time? Such as using canned foam w/ a DE or shave soap w/ a cartridge?

BBS Really?

Ok Guys,

I've been knocking out some pretty incredible shaves every morning impressing myself with my pre-war tech and GSB's. I hear all this BBS talk from quite a few here and it makes me wonder really what BBS means? From the time i'm done shaving and splashing on the Velva and balm at 0545, I get dressed and get my coffee and get in the car for the 45 minute trip to work and can already feel a slight whisker or 2 within about an hour and I swear that wasn't there when I was doing my cleanup after 3 passes.

What gives and what really is the meaning of BBS?? Is this YMMV too????

I'm not sure I can get it any closer...

My first super speed

Today had a pretty good shave with my newly acquired super speed. Was a pretty good experience being my first with a ss. I'm used to the aggressiveness of my rr mission, and I could see looking at the blade gap that this was going to be a much more mild shave. Loaded up an astra blade and face lathered my xxx. Wow! Very mild. Had to keep checking to see that it was actually cutting. I think I got a closer shave than I ever had. Unfortunately I did get a good bit of redness I think because I may have been using to much pressure. All in all what I would call a great shave and I must say that I am excited to continue with a ss for a little while!

Does anyone know what this is?

I know the silver one is a 1912 Gem but the gold one I'm not sure about. I found them both in a local antique shop and couldn’t pass on the price, they were both $5! I was also wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to clean these. I’d like to make them look as new as possible. Thank again in advance.

Virginiasheng 22mm Pur-Tech brush and knots

I pulled the trigger on one brush and two knots of the 22mm Pur-Tech synthetic knot. It arrived very quickly from China (one week).

For the two knots I reused a VDH handle (green) and a long handle that had a very bad boar knot.

I have to say, I like these knots a lot. Very soft with great backbone and whip up awesome lather, faster than anything I have. I dont have tons of brushes but do have badger and boar. My favorites have been a WD 24mm silvertip set at 50mm and a Semogue 1800 (love the backbone). I have yet to try the long handle one but I think it will be perfect for bowl lathering. For the price, highly recommended. On thing to note is that the knot will not bloom, so if you like a larger circumference you may need to go with a 26mm or a 28mm. I dont think virginiasheng sells those but FrankShaving apparently does.

Vintage Personna Blades (post *74's production)

I took a chance on these blades from eBay?

I was researching and I was not able to find similar packaging. I was interested to know approximately when they were produced. Are these blades the Personna version after the *74 blades?

Sad day.my EJ87 broke

Hello everyone.

I've been wet shaving for a year and a half now. This is my first and only razor. Last night I dropped the razor in my sink and the thread on the top cap sheared right off. I was about to change the blade. So it was loosened slightly when it slipped out of my hands. It's toast. My wife is actually more upset then I am. I'm a really simple easy going guy. She gets happy when I find something I really enjoy.

For some reason every time I take a real vacation I have nothing but bad luck when I get back home. Vacation was incredible. Weather was great. The kids got along. My wife didn't fight with her sisters. Enjoyed cigars with my brother in law.

We get home. My wife starts the second load of laundry and the washing machine breaks. Next morning I get up to go to work and my car throws and check engine light and idles erratically. Hopefully bad luck does come in threes because I'm done.

With these other 2 expenses I'm on hold for ordering a new razor for at least a month maybe 2 since back to school is coming up. I can wait though. I still have my brush and soaps to enjoy.

This is probably a good time to try something new. I'll probably go with a merkur slant or the r41 unless I can find something vintage. I've been checking the local antique shops all summer. There's nothing but a couple of straights.

Sorry for the long post but I had to let it out.

Sweating and Stinging

I never thought I would have to post what seems an elementary question like this, but here goes:

I'm now back in Taiwan after 8 years on the mainland and time lies heavy on my hands. I shave in the morning and then may pop out and buy a few things for the home. The heat here makes me sweat a great deal and my whole face feels like it's on fire, the heat (35-38'c) doesn't help but I'm in serious discomfort here. I've been DE shaving for about 3 1/2 yrs and my schedule always meant I was at work at the crack of dawn.

my whole face is sweating large amounts and I'm taking on the hue of a beetroot.

please dont be upside down

I Broke Down And Shaved With The US Style Baseplate English NEW

I wasn't gong to do it until the auditors were gone, but I shave with LC NEW's all the time. It HAD to be safe.

It was very, very, very nice. Smooth and easy. Remarkably similar blade feel to my Goodwill's. However, it didn't seem to be quite as efficient, but it was only a small difference. It felt so comfortable that I found myself pushing beyond what I would normally do on a first shave with a razor........I started chasing the BBS. It felt so familiar, but I did open up a few weepers along my jawline. Nothing serious, just small 'pinpoints. No real irritation afterwards and no sting from the ASB. Good DFS to BBS in some areas.

I plan to shave with my US LC tomorrow, but I can tell you the blade feel on the face is different to me. I just put the US LC up to my face after I was done shaving and the blade definitely presents itself more directly to the skin than the UK model. I need to check the blade exposure and gap between the US and UK model, but the UK model feels smoother. The only thing I wonder about is my US LC is an Otto Roth. It's supposed to be identical to the Gillette, but I've always wondered. I don't have an actual US Gillette LC NEW.

It's obviously too early to make any sort of definitive statement, but I was surprised at how smooth the UK NEW with the US Style baseplate felt, and how close it felt to my Goodwill's. In theory, they should be almost the same. The Goodwill is just the UK LC NEW without the center channel routed out and with the diamond studs punched through from the bottom. But, we all know what happens when something is "supposed" to be the same.

Great first shave and the UK NEW has a lot of promise. A lot. I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on the subject and what you think about the Otto Roth being my baseline razor for the US NEW. I know several of you have said you can't tell the difference between the US and UK model. I'm trying to be objective and fair.

This is the one I shaved with.

Difficulty finding dress shoes that fit and are comfortable

Well . . . maybe my feet are too narrow, or I am used to shoes that fit well right away, but I have had a heck of a time looking for a pair of dress shoes.

After a several day trip involving Nordstrom's during their anniversary sale, Clarks, Aldo (yes, you did read that!), Johnston & Murphy, and DSW, . . . I have not found a pair of leather soled shoes that feel comfortable enough to buy. This is after trying a pair of Jack Erwins that were a half size too big but that almost fit with insoles.

I have tried the mythical Allen Edmonds Park Avenue, a Bruno Magli (? spelling) that was in the high $200's, some black toe cap from Aldo, a black toe cap from Calvin Klein for $80 at DSW, the Melton from J&M, John Nordstrom's $175 dress shoe (that one and the Melton felt the best of the aforementioned, actually). None of them felt "good", although the Nordstrom's at least didn't feel terrible. The Calvin Klein actually felt quite comfortable, but was clearly not a high quality shoe.

For the record, the Aldo stitching above the top of your foot where the toe cap meets the rest of the shoe digs into your foot. As such, I strongly disliked that one.

I can understand that a cork-soled shoe takes time to mold to your foot, and that the leather upper of a shoe does mold to your foot over time and stretches a bit, but I honestly don't want to buy a pair of shoes that simply doesn't feel good or fit reasonably well (ignoring how the sole feels).

I am left with, as best I can tell, several options -

1) Figure out which high quality pair fit the best, assume that with gradual wear and break-in that they will eventually mold to my feet and feel good

2) Stick to my black tasseled loafers for now and wait for Clarks or Ecco to come out with a balmoral toe cap in black

3) Buy a pair of Ecco toe cap bluchers

4) Buy a pair of the Calvin Klein's

5) See if Bostonian or Florsheim has something decent and play mail order roulette

I have to assume that I'm missing something. How unusual is my experience, and what have you all tried and done?

Two new brushes

I just purchased two brushes from Whipped Dog. I really enjoy using these brushes and have gotten great shave from using them. I think I get a better even lathering with the 24mm knot set at 55mm high, but I still like the both of the brushes I have and I got two brushes for what I could've paid for one.

Creams with similar fragrances

I received samples of two creams I wanted to try to see what they smelled like. I got Atkinsons For Gentlemen and Czech & Speake Cedarwood & Clarysage. The Atkinsons smells like Nancy Boy Signature and the Czech & Speake smells like RazoRock XX. Both the RazoRock and Czech and Speake are to Floral for me.

1st use of the new RR XXX

I used the reformulated ( I quess) RazoRock XXX this morning and enjoyed the shave very much. I used a brush I got from whipped dog with a 24mm knot and set at 50mm high, my Merkur slant with a Voskhod blade. I usually use pre-shave oil, but I didn't this time and my shave was nice, smooth, and clean. I did knick myself a couple of times, but nothing a styptic pencil couldn't handle. I've been rubbing my face this morning and I can't get over how smooth the shave is. I like the fragrance of this XXX, but I'm torn between the old XXX and the new XXX.

Enjoyable Shaves To You All!!!!!!

Well I had a bad day.HELP!

It started off great. I had been waiting months...okay a little over a week, but it felt like months, but I finally received an attic found Rolls with extra blade still in the paper and grease, a holder and was on top of the world:w00t:. The seller sent it as found which I prefer in vintage items. Many a wasted treasures come from "cleaning them".:thumbup1: Which brings me to the bad day.

Now I followed he instructions I found here to clean it. After dismantling I cleaned the old dust grime with simple Dawn and water and it looked brand new and shiny and I planned to hone and strop once I was sure both strop and hone were thoroughly dry. Then I saw the one place I missed, a grimy spot under the spring that holds the blade straight while stropping/honing....yep, had to clean that and yep, I am now searching for a new spring. It gets better, I jerked back and knocked my stone off. Good news? I now have three stones.:bored:

Am I screwed with a pretty shelf piece or are replacement parts still sold anywhere? This one would of been pristine and I, in the battle of disposable razors, would really hate for this to become one.

Is there lep out there???

Thanks from a

Both looked like odd stones but i give it a try and both will have a new home here ;-)

1. in my point of view a Vosges / Vosgienne...it has a comparable pattern to the one i own already....light green inclusions on the other side red inclusions. Its visible on the slurry pics how different both sides look in colour...one sides slurry is brownish/red the other is more red then brown...

Iam shurely interested in other hints or tips concerning identification so probably Bayamonate or any other experienced can add a comment i would appreciate it...

A fast cutting stone leaving a very fine finish...i really like this one!!

WTB: Fat Handle Tech

Looking for a fat handle Tech in good condition to try. Preferably chrome color as opposed to gold.

It's been 10 years since my return to DE shaving. I have a 34HD, Progress, 23c, no date code SS, Fat Boy, Red Tip and Muhle's (89 & 2013 41) but I have never used a Tech and would like to try one.

Thanks in advance.

The Movie You'll Toss The Remote To Watch

You're lounging on the couch, flipping through the channels, and you favourite movie pops up, with about five minutes left (I'm looking at you, TCM). You put the remote down and watch it even though it's almost done.

Uncle Buck -- God, I miss John Candy, and this is one of his best.

A Bridge Too Far -- The wifely unit has had to suffer through me coming across this movie on tv, midway through, and reciting every piece of dialogue for the rest of the show.

Great Escape/Magnificent Seven -- If I've missed Ives dying on the fence (poor wee lad), or the plane crash with the Scrounger and the Forger in Escape, or any of Eli Wallach's scenes in Seven...I'm annoyed.

What flick will you toss the remote aside to watch, regardless of where in the film you tune in?

New brush

Hi I'm currently using a badger and bristle brush that I bought 18 months or so ago from crabtree and Evelyn. Looking to buy a new brush for around £20, see traditional shaving have a few but wondered if anyone had any recommendations. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Newbie - been using a DE for about a month now and.

I think the shave is great, I look forward to shaving now, even waking up another half hour early for work. I imagine that time will start to decrease a little more as I get better. I am still afraid to go against the grain, so It takes a while (1-3 passes) to get certain spots great. I came from about 3 years of electric shaving constantly getting next day whiteheads, having to go over the same spot 10-15 times (not against the grain) and the worst shaves ever. Would have to shave everyday, like most of you I am assuming, I work in a professional office setting and engage with clients, so whiteheads, beards, etc are unacceptable at least in my opinion they are. I would like to preface this with I have moderate acne and severely sensitive skin. I would like to find out what works best or the best way to prevent whiteheads, etc with Sensitive skin and an extremely thick beard. Recently I have been getting white heads that haven't surfaced, I could prob pop with a pin but don't want to do that.

My method of attack so far:

Merkur Heavy Duty Double Edge Razor #34C

Merkur Double Edge Razor blades (10pack) Almost went through them and was pretty satisfied with the shave.

Proraso Shaving Soap, Eucalyptus & Menthol, (Jar, I mix it directly in there)

Escali 100% Pure Badger Shaving Brush (my first one, it was cheap, are they all supposed to shed their hair?)

After shave CREAM to follow up in next post, its at my house and I dont know the name, its nothing special.

Just received in the mail and used a couple times so far, not sure how I feel about them:

100 Astra Superior Premium Platinum DE Safety Razor Blades (Had great reviews on amazon so decided I'd try them, may not be sharp enough for my beard).

Proraso Shave Soap, Sensitive Jar

Proraso Shaving Cream, Eucalyptus & Menthol (Tube, I wanted to try a lather in a mug, it wasn't so thick and I used more than a quarter size amount, I thought it was the worst lather I had so far in my wet shave experience)

Any suggestions for me would be greatly appreciative, and I could provide suggestions for things like hunting, fishing, outdoor stuff, etc.. Lol

Thank you so much...

Double or single ring

Wich is more difficult to find these days? Gillette old single or double ring?

Help identifying razor please

Hi I've just purchased a vintage razor and would like help identifying it please. From what I can tell it's an early ball end tech possibly from the 19.06. The razor is plated in a gold colour and some of the plating on the head has worn away. The only marking is the stamping "English Made" on the underside of the plate. I've attached some photos to help. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.uploadfromtaptalk1406755993016.jpguploadfromtaptalk1406756006843.jpg

Tomorrow is day one EXCITED!

So I think the wife thinks I'm crazy! I am getting my initial setup up tomorrow. It'll be shave factory DE. And whatever blades I can find in town. Also found VDH shave kit (bowl, soap, brush) at Walgreens. Any tips besides no pressure and take my time? Been researching this for awhile hoping it turns out good.

Occupational Shaving Mugs! New! Custom Made to Order!

I love all the Old Vintage Shaving Mugs! There is no doubt I will be collecting a few in the years to come. But... Today, I would love to have my own made! I have been searching every where and found one cup for a baseball player made in China. Has anyone else looked into this? Is this an idea B&B has reviewed before? Is there enough demand?

EPL - Lukaku to Everton

As an Everton fan, I am pretty much ecstatic over this. It's a ton of money, but Lukaku has pretty much cemented his place.

Shave for fun?

I for one and i'm sure like many others, used to hate shaving and since starting to wet shave I really enjoy it now.

I find my self looking at my whiskers and thinking, that is perfectly acceptable but then shaving anyway! Just because its relaxing really.

I have to shave every day anyway and never used to shave on leave or weekends until now!

Anyone else just shave for fun even though they don't need too?

Raymond Chandler on shaving, makeup and whiskey

Raymond Chandler - the legendary novelist and screenwriter - the man whose words and story-telling genius defined the genres of 'film noir' - 'hard boiled' - and 'private eye' - whose works include 'The Big Sleep' and 'The Long Good-bye' - occasionally made reference to the art and practice of shaving.

One of his memorable quotes -

"I was neat, clean, shaved and sober, and I didn't care who knew it." (from 'The Big Sleep')

He also weighed in on the effects of make-up -

"From 30 feet away she looked like a lot of class. From 10 feet away she looked like something made up to be seen from 30 feet away." (from 'The High Window')

And he had some opinions on whiskey as well -

"There is no bad whiskey. There are only some whiskeys that aren't as good as others."

So the next time you finish shaving - or appreciate a person's makeup - or raise a glass of whiskey - I suggest that you join me in drinking to the health of Mr. Raymond Thornton Chandler, one of the greats.

Cheers!

Shaving balms

Could you lead me in the right direction? I am currently using Crabtree and Evelyn's Moroccan myrrh (which I love) shaving balm and Nivea sensitive shaving balms, but I am looking for some other suggestions. I do not like thin alcohol splashes. I am looking more for moisturizing soothing balms. I like an assortment of scents.

WTS: Tony Miller Strop

Here is a Tony Miller strop and practice strop up for sale.

The strop is the 2.5" Heirloom Original Fast Bridal with Tony's linen and D rings. I only used it once. The practice strop was only used about 10 times total. Both are in perfect condition with no nicks. I paid $105 for both shipped to my door from Tony. I will sell them both for $95 shipped to your door (conus only).

My latest, interesting acquisition.

I'm gonna start by apologizing for not posting pictures. I have been having a heck of a time with that, but I still wanted to discuss this razor.

About 3 weeks ago I picked up a cased Probak razor in near-pristine condition. As some of you know, this is an open-comb razor head that looks kind of like the head of a Goodwill razor. The top plate has 4 tiny pins at the corners to hold the blade in place, and it has indentations in its undersurface. The bottom plate has "plus-sign" shaped protrusions that fit into the indentations.

Using this scheme, the razor holds a blade dead nuts, even though before the blade is loaded it looks like there is a ton of play. The hold on the bottom plate for the handle is HUGE. But, again, it very ingeniously holds the blade perfectly every time.

There is virtually no blade gap at all, and the razor shaves quite mildly. It makes a very tinny sound when shaving that makes it sound cheap, and the feel while shaving is not very good (perhaps related to the sound?). There is a very narrow window of angles within which the blade will cut. The angle is steeper than I normally use with my other razors.

Strange thing is that it gives the most wonderful, smooth, comfortable shaves and leaves the face looking amazing. It's seriously starting to win me over. The more I use it the more I realize what a wonder it is.

Anybody else own/use a Probak? Any thoughts about this razor? (By the way, I don't use it with its original handle; I've paired it with a custom UFO Kaiser. It's a match made in heaven.)

2 new Shaving Bowls for under $6

After work this morning I ran over to The Asian Market after some Phó for breakfast. What can I say.. Vegas. So I browsed around and ran across the rice and soup bowl section. I found these two stainless bowls. They are double walled.. One is 4.5" across on top and the other is 5". I wasn't sure which size would be good, so I got both. At $2.50 and $3.09. Not much to complain about. I really like the way they look, a nice clean look. Especially compared to my Black plastic cereal bowl I've been using for the last year. Lol. So I decided to whip up some TOBS grapefruit in the small bowl to test her out and to use my B&B Boar brush. Bam. Lather explosion. Lather the brush and let sit overnight to make it smell delicious. They are great bowls for the price. Too bad there was nothing else shave related or I could have bought to use. :thumbup1:
